Sponge Play:
The purpose of this activity addresses fine motor skills as it strengthens the hands and muscles of the forearms because any activity that has the involvement of gripping against resistance will enhance strength. The end-goal for your child is to properly develop bilateral coordination, concentration, and prepare for other everyday living activities such as writing. Implementing this activity a few times a week will form your child’s fingers independently, thus improving dexterity and strength as a result.
Supplies needed: Two bowls and a clean, new sponge.
Instructions: Grab two bowls and a sponge. Fill one bowl with water while leaving the other bowl empty. Allow your child to submerge the sponge in the bowl filled with water and then squeeze the water out into the other bowl. Alternate between hands.
