The goal for this activity is that kids will carefully scoop the corn kernels and “feed” them to the animals by placing the kernels into their mouths. This activity is not only entertaining but also helps improve hand-eye coordination, concentration, and dexterity.
Hand-eye coordination, concentration, and dexterity are beneficial skills for children in all aspects of daily life. Being able to incorporate these skills within a fun activity can correlate to daily living activities such as proper use of feeding or hygiene utensils, as well as creating a foundation for concentration that can be used in school, problem-solving, and social interactions.
As your child feeds each animal, you are able to encourage them to talk about the animals. This can be demonstrated by asking what sound they make, where they live, and how they help on the farm.
This activity can be advanced by being able to create additional activities as well. These activities can include having the child count or being set a certain number to feed the animals, or adding in the use of instructions for the child to follow while they feed the animals.
Overall, the farm fun activity has a perfect balance between play and learning. Children are able to practice fine motor control while interacting with familiar farm animals. Perfect for playtime!
