Making a Wiggle Monster

I thought this activity would be tons of fun to do at home because many of our friends enjoy doing arts and crafts during therapy. This reminded me of making a Mr. Potato Head, but with a more arts and crafts approach. This activity allows children to work on their fine motor skills, motor planning, emotional regulation strategies, and emotional awareness. Discussing emotions with your child while making a wiggle monster will help promote emotional awareness through pretend play, acknowledging why you feel this way sometimes, and finding regulation strategies for this emotion (e.g., deep breathing, swinging, weighted blankets). Making this activity into a game may help your child feel more comfortable expressing their feelings.

For this activity, you will need:

    • Can also use a toilet paper roll
